Phil Walsh is returning to Sunbird Records in Darwen on the 8th of August almost a year after his first hometown solo gig at the venue. Now a Houston, Texas resident of nearly 20 years Phil will be back playing with his ex-Russian For Money collaborator, Clive Dove. There will be surprises along the way with all original music including some new songs not performed previously and unique arrangements of older songs courtesy of Clive’s unusual instrument collection.
Gig support on the night comes from My Little Universe, and Naut.My Little Universe is a Darwen based sole electronic artist (Steven Kenyon). He’s dedicated to creating 80's inspired original synth based melodic pop. His last album, ‘Darwen’, features 10 instrumental songs that call out local Darwen landmarks or locations all Darreners will know. He has a new album in the works plus plans to make ‘Darwen’ available on vinyl.
Opening the evening is naut (Darwen-based musician/producer Jordan Riding) who combines a blend of hypnotic atmospherics, captured sounds & ethereal live guitar anchored by electronic beats. naut is currently working on second album 'a digital ocean of colour' and finalizing work on the upcoming second single from the album 'glower' which is due Late August/Early September.Expect to hear lots of new material from the forthcoming album as part of this live set.
It is a free event, but contributions are encouraged, and Phil will be bringing a live Texas tradition of the ‘Tip Jar’ to the night.Phil said “I’m excited to be back playing in my hometown again at Sunbird. They hosted me last year and the reaction and support was fantastic. The event was a huge success. Many people travelled in especially for the gig on a rainy Wednesday night and I was surprised at how many people were wearing Russian For Money t-shirts; 1) that the T-Shirts had survived over 25 years and, 2) they still fit!
